Under the strong guidance of head coach Andrew Daly, the Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (7-1) is off to its best start of the decade.
The Lakers are currently riding a win streak of six games, having pulled off significant victories over Farmingdale State College (14-13), Alfred University (11-9), SUNY Polytechnic Institute (13-6) and others during the flurry. They have outscored opponents 78-50 over the last six victories, including their most recent 18-9 win over SUNY Morrisville on March 28 – a game that also marked the start of conference play.
The Lakers’ primary strength lies on offense, with 95 goals while averaging 11.88 per game. Their man-up attack — headed mainly by Garrett Elston, Hayden Coney and Logan Postel — is the best in the SUNYAC. The team has scored a conference-best 20 goals when on the power play and their percentage of 57.1% is comfortably higher than second-place SUNY Oneonta.
Individually, senior Coney leads the scoring charge with 17 goals, a mark that is also good for No. 12 in the SUNYAC. Coney has coupled a strong offensive playstyle with aggressiveness on the opposing end, accounting for 14 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Austin Sroda has contributed his dynamic playstyle, sitting at third in the SUNYAC in ground balls (46) while also having netted three goals.
Junior Emmet Starowicz has continued upon his impressive 2024-25 campaign, when he developed a dynamic attack with 14 goals and 22 assists. Through eight games, the junior has tallied 11 goals and 19 assists. Furthermore, Trey Jones holds the third-best shooting percentage in the SUNYAC (44.4%) for players with at least 10 goals. Jones, a senior attacker, has rung home 16 goals, including three separate hat tricks.
Seamus Hand headlines things on the back end as the team’s starting goalie. Hand is currently second in the conference in save percentage (61.6%), only behind SUNY Potsdam’s Saka Thompson (65.4%). The senior has totaled 106 saves and recently hit the mark of 500 career saves after a dominant showing against Utica University on March 18.
In front of him are players like freshman Joey Zarcone and sophomore Logan Linn, who have both made their mark as impactful underclassmen. Zarcone has scooped up 22 ground balls, while Linn has caused 11 turnovers. Junior Doryn Leclair is a jack of all trades, with 10 goals, nine assists, 16 ground balls and three caused turnovers on the season.
On the more experienced side of things, senior Colton Maher has troubled opponents with a team-leading 13 caused turnovers.
With one SUNYAC outing already under their belt, the Lakers prepare for their most telling stretch of the season within the next few weeks. The team first takes on Plattsburgh State (6-2) on April 3, followed by a critical clash with perennial SUNYAC powerhouse SUNY Cortland (5-5) on April 8. SUNY Canton then comes into town on April 11, before SUNY Oneonta, New Paltz and SUNY Potsdam close out the month of April. SUNYAC tournament play starts on April 29 and runs through May 2.
