For the first time since 2022, the Oswego State field hockey team has started the season 3-0.

With wins over Elmira College, Nazareth University and Keuka College – three foes that the team has outscored a combined 8-1 – the Lakers stand neck-and-neck with Salisbury in the SUNYAC standings.

The Lakers kicked the season off with a statement, shutting down the Elmira Soaring Eagles 4-0 on Sept. 2. The Soaring Eagles stood tall throughout the first period, denying a plethora of shots from the Lakers, but it was not until early into the second period that the Lakers eventually broke through. A nifty feed from Sophia Prianti allowed Hannah Pawlowski to sneak one past Elmira, giving the Lakers their first lead since Oct. 29, 2025 against Alfred University.

The Lakers piled on three more scores throughout the ensuing two and a half periods, with Sydney Marceau, Kara Malejs and Gabby Curtis all accounting for a goal. The hard-nosed defense of Oswego allowed their opponent to get just seven shots off, 20 less than the home squad, while Sam Krautheim registered the fifth full-game shutout of her career.

The Lakers traveled to Rochester three days later for a matchup with the Nazareth Golden Flyers, one in which they emerged victorious 3-1. The first half was headlined by defense, as only three total shots were put on net between the two teams. One of those proved worthwhile for the Lakers, as midfielder Harlie Giliberti sniped it past the Golden Flyers on a breakaway, putting the visitors up 1-0.

After a green card on a Golden Flyer emerged just three minutes into the second period, the Lakers used the man-up advantage to capitalize. After a few minutes of back and forth action, Prianti notched her second point of the week with a quick goal to give Oswego a two-goal cushion. The Lakers struck for the final time in the third period, before Nazareth used one goal in the last to avoid a shutout.

The Lakers last matchup of the week came as a crucial one, as it was their first chance to start 3-0 since the 2022 season.  A plethora of shots were had by each team to open the game, as both built a playstyle based on quickness and physicality. With nine minutes to go in the first quarter, Prianti slipped a pass through a sea of green and white jerseys. The ball found its way to midfielder Julia Unger, who put it past the opposite side of goalkeeper Khadeeja Reed.

The following three periods were headlined by strong Laker defense, which allowed them to take home a 1-0 victory. The Lakers now stand at 3-0, and prepare for a road test against a tough Wilkes University side on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
