Tahereh Mafi releases highly anticipated sequel, ‘These Infinite Threads’

Rating: 5/5 stars

“These Infinite Threads” by Tahereh Mafi (“Shatter Me”) is a thrilling sequel to “This Woven Kingdom,” which came out early last year. The first book ends on an intense cliffhanger that left readers eager for book two.

“These Infinite Threads” starts with a lot of action and it does not slow down throughout the entire book. With the point of view alternating each chapter between Alizeh and Kameran, we get to see everything happening at all times.

Alizeh is taken to Tulan by Cyrus, who is determined to marry her to fulfill his deed to the devil. She refuses to marry him, but throughout her time with him in Tulan, she slowly starts to soften toward him.

Cyrus is initially introduced to us as someone Alizeh should not trust, but as she gets to know him more, it is clear he has hidden his true personality from her. Despite him claiming to hate her, the thought of hurting her seems unbearable to him. This shows that there is a lot left to be discovered about him in the next book.

Kamaran is still reeling from the events that happened before Cyrus took off with Alizeh, and he is convinced she betrayed him. He is left extremely angry and instantly begins forming plans to go to war with Tulan. He continues to try to get things done, but is constantly pulled off track by a small group of people who provide a lot of humor for the reader, but none for Kamaran.

“This Woven Kingdom” was an excellent introduction to this land and it provided a lot of background information, however it did not have a lot of action. “These Infinite Threads” all but made up for that with so much happening right from the start.

Mafi does an amazing job with moving the story forward with the perfect blend of action and storytelling. She introduces us to the land of Tulan in a hilarious way, while still giving the readers the information needed.

The character development throughout this book is amazing and while we only spend every other chapter with each character, their storyline moves along steadily. Alizeh starts off very angry and sad about being taken from Ardunia, and she is unsure of whether her friends are alive or not. However, throughout her time in Tulan, she grows more compassionate towards Cyrus, knowing that it is not entirely his fault that he is the way that he is.

Kamaran also starts off this book extremely angry, but he uses his anger to set a plan in motion. He works with his closest friend to discover what really happened the night Cyrus took Alizeh and they form a plan to get revenge.

“These Infinite Threads” ended in a perfect way, leaving the readers wanting more and leaving a lot of unanswered questions, but it also did not end on too much of a cliffhanger. It is currently unknown how many books will be in this series total, but Mafi is known for committing to long series so this could still be the start of a much longer plan.
