Abby Jimenez’s ‘Yours Truly:’ Breathtakingly profound story that will leave a mark

Rating: 5/5 stars

“Yours Truly” by Abby Jimenez (“Life’s Too Short”) is the second book in her “Part of Your World” series. This book follows Briana, whose life seems to be spiraling out of control. Her divorce is days away from being finalized, her brother is in desperate need of a kidney donor and to top it all off, there is a new doctor in her ER who is driving her crazy.

Jacob decided it was time to switch hospitals because he could no longer stand to work with his ex-girlfriend and brother, who are now engaged. Jacob’s first few days on the job are a hot mess and he is starting to worry he has made a huge mistake. He suffers from severe anxiety and everything that keeps going wrong makes the transition much worse for him.

After a few awkward and messy encounters with Briana, he decides to write her a letter to clear the air. At first, she is determined to hate him, but after reading his letter, she cannot help but be his friend. They start having lunch together in her sob closet and slowly become closer.

After talking with their mutual friend, Jacob finds out he is a perfect match to be a kidney donor to Briana’s brother. After thinking it over, he decides to do it, but anonymously. However, after a slip-up, Briana finds out the donor is him and begs him to let her repay him in some way.

He gives in and asks her to be his fake girlfriend for the few months leading up to his brother’s wedding so his family no longer thinks he is heartbroken over his ex. She agrees, but after a few months of fake dating, they both start to question if their feelings for each other really are fake.

Jimenez is an amazing author who sprinkles humor throughout her books. She has hilarious one-liners that will make you laugh out loud. She writes hilarious side characters that add so much to the story.

“Yours Truly” touches on some sensitive topics such as PTSD, miscarriage and anxiety. Jimenez writes each of these in an amazing way and does not dramatize them. She writes about them in a way that educates the reader about these things and she does not avoid the messy parts of life.

Both Briana and Jacob have had a hard time in their lives recently and it is nice to see them help each other get through it and heal from their past. The ending is a roller coaster of emotions and it is extremely impactful.

This book includes the fake-dating trope, the one bed trope and the pregnancy trope. You will not want to put the book down once you start reading. Jimenez’s writing will suck you in and you will be invested in Briana and Jacob’s story.
