Laker Quick Recap: No. 12 Men’s hockey at SUNY Fredonia

The No. 12 Oswego State men’s hockey team took on SUNY Fredonia at the Steele Hall Ice Arena. The Lakers were victorious in the SUNYAC matchup by a score of 5-4.

FIRST PERIOD

  • Derek Brown opened up scoring for Oswego State at 1:46 after a turnover in the offensive zone. He got the puck in the slot and put a shot past Anton Rosén. The goal was unassisted.
  • With 11:33 left in the period, Carter Allen was given a five-minute major for contact to the head, and given a subsequential game misconduct, ending his night. Alex DiCarlo served the five-minute major. The Lakers went on the penalty kill for the first time.
  • At 11:09, Victor Tracy scored on the power play for the Blue Devils with a one-timer from the top of the faceoff dot. Charlie Manley and Malcolm Arseneau had the assists on the goal. The power play would continue for SUNY Fredonia since Allen’s penalty was a major penalty.
  • With 6:33 left in the period, Oswego State killed off the penalty with only one goal allowed during the five-minute span of time.
  • At 14:47, Colton Fletcher was called for interference, and at the same time, SUNY Fredonia scored its second goal of the night from Jacob Haynes to take a one-goal lead. Oswego State killed the Fletcher penalty.
  • 18:14 into the first period, Craig McCabe was called for a two-minute interference call, given the Lakers their first power play opportunity of the game.
  • With 27.3 seconds left in the opening period, Michael Gilllespie and Max Blitz were both called for two-minute minors that cancelled each other out. The power play remained for the Lakers.
  • END 1: SUNY Fredonia leads Oswego State 2-1.

SECOND PERIOD

  • 14 seconds into the second period, Oswego State’s power play ended without a goal.
  • With 19:01 remaining in the period, Jody Sullivan got a rebound goal off the original Anthony Passero shot to tie the game at two. Broughman had the primary assist.
  • Joey Scorpio scored his first goal of the season with 16:20 remaining in the period to give Oswego State a 3-2 lead. Tanner Spink had the lone assist on the goal.
  • At 16:06, Tyler Antonucci took a shot on net that was tipped into the net past Rosén’s shoulder by Passero. It was Antonucci’s second point in two games. Gillespie had the other assist. The goal was Passero’s 100th collegiate point.
  • With 1:43 remaining in the middle period, Chris MacMillan was called for interference, sending the Blue Devils on the power play.
  • END 2: Oswego State leads SUNY Fredonia 4-2.

THIRD PERIOD

  • To start the third period, sophomore Ryan Pascarella was in goal for SUNY Fredonia in relief for Rosén.
  • The power play was quickly killed 17 seconds into the opening period by the Lakers. No goals were allowed.
  • SUNY Fredonia made it a one-goal game after a rebound goal from Jasper Korican-Barlay got past Richer. Tracy and Anders Johnson were given the assists with 13:09 remaining in the period.
  • With 2:53 remaining in the regulation period, Ryan Dunner scored the Blue Devils’ fourth goal of the game to tie up the contest. Arseneau and Korican-Barlay had the assists on the goal.
  • With 45.1 seconds left in regulation, Antonio Demacopulus got called for roughing. Tyson Kirkby scored on the power play with 40.5 seconds left in regulation. Max Novick and Broughman with the assists.
  • SUNY Fredonia called a timeout with 13.9 seconds left in the regulation period.
  • FINAL: Oswego State wins 5-4 over SUNY Fredonia.

POST-GAME

  • Oswego State (7-3-0, 6-1-0 SUNYAC) is done for the semester, and will not return to the ice until Jan. 3, 2020, for the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic against Saint Mary’s University (Minnesota) for the first round of the tournament.
  • SUNY Fredonia (2-6-3, 1-6-1 SUNYAC) has one more game for the semester against Chatham University on Dec. 14 for the team’s Teddy Bear Toss at home.
