Halloween season is approaching: Costumes should be planned out

Halloween is a month away, so now is the perfect time to start buying costumes. If it feels like time is running out, there is no need to worry.

There are plenty of costumes that you can create with just your closet. Dressing like an animal is the easiest option. You can dress up as a cat by wearing all black and putting on fake ears. Even if you do not have time to buy ears, if you have long enough hair you can make it with your hair. Towards the center-top of your head separate two pieces of hair and braid them both. You can then shape the two braids into points and attach it with a clip or bobby pin. This is a creative way to create perfect cat eas.

If you have more time and want to dress as something a little more creative, inspiration from your favorite piece of media is a good choice. It can be a way to show your interests through your costume, giving you the opportunity to start conversations with others that have the same interests.

If you are dressing as a character that is not as recognizable, try having a signature piece so that it is more noticeable. Lots of costumes can be mistaken for others. If you are dressing up as Strawberry Shortcake you could be mistaken for Where’s Waldo because both wear red and white striped shirts. It is important to wear a hat with strawberries on it to differentiate between the two.

Makeup is what makes the whole costume. It is a necessary component to a costume that helps people identify your costume. A fake wound, animal features or painting yourself a completely different color adds details to your costume that would make it boring without it. On the days coming up to Halloween, practice your makeup so that you are not overwhelmed the night of. This helps avoid you attempting a new skill last minute.

Choosing, creating and capturing the vision for your costume can be stressful but it is meant to be fun. There is no need to worry about your costume when there are so many possible costume ideas and ways of achieving it. The most important part of your Halloween costume is that you feel confident while wearing it.
