New Tomodachi Life game creates excitement for fans with new direction

Nintendo’s latest installment in the Tomodachi Life series is more vibrant than ever.

After its announcement during last March’s Nintendo Direct, anticipation has been building among fans for the release of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. This is the third installment in Nintendo’s Tomodachi simulation series following 2013’s Tomodachi Life. After over ten years, we finally have a tenth generation edition of Tomodachi Life.

The game allows the player to oversee an island full of Nintendo’s iconic Mii characters, created by the player themselves. The player controls the characters and watches as they develop relationships with each other.

In more ways than one, the game shares many similarities with its predecessor. The greatest difference is in the customization. The player can design the island layout however they want, including creating original designs with advanced customization mechanics. They can adjust the environments and positions of buildings. They can also make a variety of things for the Miis and the island, including clothes, food and pets. The customization mechanics carry over into the creation mechanics for Miis as Face Paint. Players can add intricate details to their Miis’ faces.

The player can also create customized exteriors for the houses the Miis live in, adding to the endless creative possibilities of the game

The socialization aspect of the game is also much more intricate. Players can give their Miis specific topics, people and activities to discuss in order to develop their relationships with each other. The player can also directly control the Miis, forcing them to speak with each other, whereas the previous game required Miis to be exclusively inclined to do so. The same mechanic is used to add more customization to the Miis, with the ability to give them unique expressions, greetings and walking styles

Both of these aspects of the game allow for a myriad of hilarious hijinks that the player can watch and cause. One of the game’s biggest strengths is its ability to emphasize the outlandish nature at the core of the series.

The game’s biggest weakness is its tendency to become repetitive very quickly. The game’s scale somewhat masks this by still providing a lot of variety.

Because it is a simulation game, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream does not offer the player much story interactivity, but it makes up for this in spades with its creative capabilities, far outranking either of its predecessors.

If you are looking for a game that will let you go all the way to express yourself, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is the game for you.
