The City of Oswego welcomed its new mayor, Robert A. Corradino, into office on Jan. 1.
âI have to get used to calling myself that still, mayor,â Corradino said.
He was born and raised in Oswego and graduated from SUNY Oswego with a bachelorâs degree in business. After retiring from a successful career in the printing business, he served on the city council for eight years before becoming mayor.
He now looks forward to continuing the progress the city has made under the leadership of the previous mayor, Billy Barlow.
âWhat it came down to was looking for and securing grant funding,â Corradino said. All the projects that happened were because we obtained millions of dollars in grant funding.â These funding opportunities were in reference to various downtown revitalization projects that have been completed over the past eight years, along with other community works such as the new pier and Wrightâs Landing.
âBefore I took office, I made sure I had someone in place to continue that grant writing,â Corradino said. âI was able to fill that role with an outside company, so we will continue pursuing and obtaining the grant funding that will help us progress.â
Along with what Corradino calls ânot so glamorousâ improvements, such as sewer and water projects that are ongoing, the city is also getting ready for the historic total eclipse set to pass over Oswego on April 8.
