Public Relations: The best career in 2024

Public relations (PR) is the best career to pursue in 2024 for a variety of reasons, including financial and social.

The definition of PR is broad. In short, PR is the use of organic public communication to amplify a brand’s image.

When thinking about a career, it is important to note the yearly salary, employment benefits, job availability and trajectory. PR has all of this and more to offer.

For starters, it does not matter if you studied communications in college. It can offer an advantage, but writing and verbal communication skills are what is truly important. The ability to think on your feet and adaptability are musts.

It does not matter if you are an introvert or extrovert, even if the movies say so. An ideal team will have both personalities for balance.

In the industry, there are so many different types of PR. Media relations, social media management, corporate and in-house.

PR is relatively fluid, so it is easier to move around and determine where your specific set of skills and expertise fit in best.

The salary and benefits are some of the best aspects of going into the exciting world of PR. Entry-level public relations specialists gain upwards of $48-$73,000, with an average of $68,000  yearly.

The job trajectory is another notable aspect. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 297,100 PR jobs were held in 2022. About 26,000 jobs are projected to open in the industry each year.

Well-known PR agencies like Edelman, Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis and Prosek Partners are growth-focused. They offer fellowship programs where they hire post-graduate students and train them over a course of four to five months, potentially offering them full-time jobs upon completion.

Just some of the employment benefits listed in most larger PR agencies are 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, a number of hours to participate in civic action and even child and pet adoption support.

Committing to the PR industry is sure to give you a long-lasting and fulfilling career.
