Oswego State baseball drops two straight after four-game winning streak snapped

Oswego baseball has had some good momentum as of late. There have been some ups and downs during their preseason play leading up to their first conference games and they look to be heading in the right direction.

They are currently sitting at five wins and eight losses including a massive win over William Paterson University in which they won 27-7. Four of their losses have come in heavily-contested games in which they only lost by three runs or fewer. Most recently they went down to Florida to play in a series of six games against five different teams in Lake Myrtle, Florida for the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

The Lakers played their first game against Hamilton College. This was a highly-contested game that showed some good pitching on both sides. Oswego would go on to win their opening game in 11 innings 3-2 on a walk off. Notable performers in this game were Julian Drew who hit in the game-winning run in the 11th as well as pitchers Kieran Finnegan and Larry Citrola who combined for a total of 16 strikeouts and only one run earned.

Oswego played their next two games against William Paterson University, and in the first game they dominated them and won 27-7. Notable performers in this game were Owen Parliment who went 2-2 with a home run, as well as Jake Lukaswiecz who went 1-1 with a walk and a homerun.

Their next game was also played against William Paterson, which they won 9-4 in a much closer game. Notable performers of this game were Jacob Levine who went 3-4 with three RBI’s as well as Owen Parliment who went 1-4 with three RBI’s.

Oswego’s fourth win in Florida would come against the University of Southern Maine in which they beat them 11-8. Notable performers in this game were Brian Brezosky who went 3-3 with an RBI and pitcher Alek Conrad who pitched six innings, struck out eight batters, and gave up no runs. Oswego’s win streak would come to an end against Benedictine University in a pitchers duel that saw the final score be only 2-1.

The notable performer in this game was Jacob Sanders who pitched seven innings, gave up no runs, and struck out 11.

Oswego’s final loss in Florida would come to Johns Hopkins University in a 16-9 loss, a high-scoring game in which the Lakers scored seven runs in the first inning and were then essentially shut down for the rest of the game.

The notable performers of this game were Julian Drew and Tishawn Featherstone who both went 3-5 with two RBI’s each. Overall, a solid string of games in Florida for the Oswego Lakers.

The team looks to be heading in the right direction as they head for the beginning of conference play. There have been some significant players that have stood out on the Lakers at the start of this season. The most prominent of the bunch being Parliment.

He has played exceptionally well this year with an average of .341, a slugging percentage of 1.140, and he has also hit three home runs this season. Other notable hitters to look for success from this season are Julian Drew, Jelani Hamer and Jacob Levine who are all hitting over .260 this season.

Some of the pitchers to look out for this season are Kieran Finnegan, Jacob Sanders and Jake Danyluk. Finnegan has had a stellar season so far throwing a total of 23 and a third innings with an ERA of 1.93 and striking out 27 batters already. Sanders has already played well in the past giving up no runs in seven innings. Jake Danyluk has pitched ten total innings this season with an ERA of 1.80. Oswego has had some good runs as of late, and they look to continue their success, but they will begin their conference play against SUNY Cortland, the No. 19 ranked team in the nation.

Oswego will have their hands full in the doubleheader that they will have to play against them. Their games will be at noon and 3 p.m.
