Former SUNY Oswego professor, Tyler King, was released on bail Friday following his first court appearance in Okotoks, Alberta.

King was arrested at the Lansdowne border crossing on Oct. 30 and charged with sex crimes against minors under the age of 18.

While the details of the bail hearing are under a publication ban, the judge has barred King from contacting the complainants and being around anyone under 18 years old. He is also forced to follow restrictions on his use of the internet and social media.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) began their investigation into King shortly after his tenure with the Okotoks Oilers ended, a team that plays in the British Columbia Hockey League.

King is a former play-by-play announcer turned broadcasting and digital journalism professor as well as a former faculty adviser to WTOP-10, SUNY Oswego’s student-run television station.

Oswego’s president, Peter O. Nwosu, announced in an email to faculty and staff on Nov. 2 that the school has banned King from campus without pay.

King is due back in court on Dec. 18, facing charges of luring, sexual exploitation and making child pornography.
