SUNY Oswego professor charged with child sexual exploitation
A SUNY Oswego broadcast and digital journalism professor is facing multiple charges following a two-year RCMP investigation into the sexual exploitation of junior hockey players.ย
Alberta RCMP said Tyler King, 39, a former play-by-play announcer turned professor and faculty advisor to WTOP-10, SUNY Oswegoโs student-run television station, was arrested on Oct. 30 at the Lansdowne border crossing in Ontario, Canada.
King is charged with three counts of luring a person under 18 years, sexual exploitation of a young person, and making child pornography, police said during a virtual press conference on Nov. 2.
Canadian Police said their investigation started in June 2024 after an employee of the Okotoks Oilers, the former Canadian junior team King worked for, reported to the RCMP that a former employee was soliciting and compensating players for intimate images and videos.
King was remanded into custody and will be returned to Alberta.
King left the Oilers organization in 2024 and has worked with hockey teams in Fort McMurray, Brooks and Nanaimo in addition to Okotoks. He started working at Oswego in the Fall semester of 2025.
The investigation is still ongoing.
