Menโ€™s soccer ties Canton, falls to AlfredState as SUNYAC playoff race tightens

On the tail-end of their regular season, the Oswego State menโ€™s soccer team saw mixed results against SUNY Canton and Alfred College.

Oswego tied Canton, 1-1, drawing the first blood before the Kangaroos responded in crunch time. Aiden Lawrence of the Lakers received a precise feed from Kieran Husselbeck, launching a perfectly-angled shot above the head of opposing goalkeeper Jason Vela in the 51st minute.

The Lakers put on a defensive masterclass in the ensuing frames, denying anything that the visitors threw their way. Goalkeeper Kyle Rose continued to keep the Roos at bay, making an impressive save in the 69th minute after defenders Ryan Bullis and TJ Tanner continuously pushed opposing ballhandlers into difficult looks.

The Roos eventually broke through however, as a speedy Markel Mosley eluded multiple defenders during a breakaway, forcing Rose to come out of the box before grounding it past his outstretched foot. Neither team was able to get a second goal on the board in the final eight minutes, as the Lakers concluded the contest in their third tie of the season.

Dan Kaneโ€™s squad looked to rebound against Alfred State four days later, although a physical Pioneer squad kept them from doing so. While an initial shot attempt from Josh Lewandusky was blocked by a Laker, Logan Bickel came soaring in to launch a powerful shot past a diving Rose to put his squad up, 1-0.

It did not take much time for the Pioneers to strike once again. A deflected corner kick off the head of a Laker routed to Lewandusky, who propelled a powerful strike in the midst of a chaotic box, which flew past the head of a diving Rose.

The Pioneers then brought a high-level of defensive intensity to the pitch, which was eventually curbed by a goal from Ian Husselbeck in the 51st minute. The Lakers failed to get on the board after though, falling 2-1. Oswego is set for one final regular season matchup, facing off against SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, Oct. 24.
