Field hockey splits two-game set with Manhattanville, Hartwick

After dropping five straight contests, the Oswego State field hockey team rebounded with a thrilling win over Manhattanville University before dropping a shutout to Hartwick College.

The Lakers and Valiants went the distance, heading to double-overtimes before Carly King snagged the game-winning goal in the 78th minute.

A tight defensive battle opened the game, before Keira Guinan used a flashy move to elude the defense and put a shot past goalie Sam Krautheim. The Lakers quickly got back into the swing of things though, as Alexa Snyder received a pass between a sea of green and white jerseys, sniping a goal past multiple defenders to knot the contest up at one goal apiece in the third period.

Chaos ensued throughout the following frames, as neither team was able to convert. Although the two combined for nine shots through the remainder of regulation, both goalies stood on their heads to deny all attempts. The Valiants had a near-conversion in the first overtime, but excellent defensive positioning allowed Natalie Shields to deflect the ball past the net.

The second overtime saw much of the same defensive battle throughout the early stages, before a backhanded pass was received by Alexa Snyder and softly shoveled to Carly King, who made a diving deflection into the net.

After capturing a thrilling 2-1 victory, the Lakers took to Oneonta, New York, the next day to face off against the Hartwick College Hawks. The Lakers struggled to find their footing in Saturdayโ€™s contest, falling 4-0 to a Hawksโ€™ squad that has had a strong 2026 season.

A trio of games remain in the Lakersโ€™ regular season, with the next coming as a road contest against SUNY Morrisville set for Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
