DWTS week four Mariah Carey Night ends with shocking elimination sparking backlash from fans

Mariah Carey Night hit a surprising low note for one couple on “Dancing with the Stars” as Ciara Miller and Brandon Armstrong were eliminated despite earning their highest scores.

The fourth week of competition featured couples dancing to some of Carey’s biggest hits. While the performance brought the music icon’s catalog to the ballroom, the results shocked many viewers, with host and reality star Miller and Armstrong being sent home even after improving their scores significantly.

The night also brought controversy for judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who faced criticism for her feedback to contestant Guillermo Rodriguez. Inaba told Rodriguez he was “dimming his light a little bit in this dance,” prompting boos from the audience during the live show and heavy criticism online.

Rodriguez’s professional partner, Witney Carson, later said she disagreed with Inaba’s feedback. Despite the criticism the pair remains in the competition as the couples prepare for week five.

Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas sit at the top of the leaderboard after week four with 25 out of 30 points. Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson, Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskity and Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach follow in a three way tie with 24 points.

Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov sit next with 23 points, while Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess, Jackson Olsen and Emma Slater and Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa are tied at 21.

Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik earned 20 points, followed by Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold with 19. Rodriguez and Carson have 13 points and have sat at the bottom of the leaderboard throughout the competition thus far.

Next week, the competition will trade Carey’s biggest hits for Super Bowl Night, celebrating past Super Bowl halftime shows. Monday Night Football commentator Joe Buck will join the panel as a guest judge, while NFL alum Danny Amendola is among the special guests expected to appear in the ballroom.

The couples will dance to a mix of pop, Latin and hip hop hits, with Usher, Lady Gaga, Shakira and Rihanna among the featured artists.

Higgins and Ballas will perform a Tango to Rhianna’s “Only Girl(In the World)”, while Dewan and Chmerkovskiy will take on a Paso Doble to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” Glenn and Pashkov will dance a Samba to “Mi Gente” by J Balvin and Willy William.

Stiles and Sosa will perform a Jazz routine to “Jenny From the Block” by Jennifer Lopez featuring Jadakiss and Styles P. Ali and Ravnik will dance a Salsa to Kendrick Lamar’s “squabble up,” while Frech and Karagach will also perform a Salsa to Nelly’s “Hot in Herre.”

Wood and Arnold will take on a Samba to Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie”, featuring Wyclef Jean. Olson and Slater will perform a Salsa to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, while Rodriguez and Carson will dance a Salsa to Bad Bunny’s “Titi Me Pregunto.”

Shum Jr. and Johnson will perform a Samba to Usher’s “Yeah!” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris. Cameron and Burgess will be dancing a Jazz to “The Time(Dirty Bit)” by the Black Eyed Peas.

As the competition intensifies, Super Bowl Night will give the remaining couples another chance to steal the spotlight and dance their way closer to the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
