Oswego continues dominance in conference; still in first place

Complete domination is an understatement for the Oswego state women’s lacrosse team vs. Plattsburgh State. The Lakers moved to 6-0 in conference play, showing why they are the No. 1 ranked SUNYAC team currently.

The Lakers started off hot, going on a 5-0 goal streak to start the game out with five different scorers showing that they can move the ball well and get it in the back of the net. Two of the goals came from veteran players on the team, Alexis Hill and Cassidy Croce. The Lakers only let one goal in over the course of the game and that goal came from Ellie Macdonald. the Cardinals went into the second quarter down four goals.

It was complete domination from   there as both Croce and Hill got hat tricks early in this game and helped lead the way to half, going up 9-1. While on the other side of the field, junior defender Katherine Nash had two ground balls and caused a turnover.

Going into the second half of play, the Lakers’ momentum did not stop as they scored another five goals in the third quarter. Freshman Cecilia Witherel found the net for her second goal of the game, along with Croce scoring another two goals, finishing with five goals on the day.

Senior captain Sadie Zemanick also held down the Lakers defense, helping allow only one goal and getting two ground balls. Sealing the deal for the Lakers was sophomore Ayla Snyder, who put the final goal in to finish the day off for the Lakers 16-1.

The Lakers’ next matchup was against SUNY Potsdam, where they were looking to continue their domination of a run through the SUNYAC so far this season. Croce, Hill and Greene were looking for another high-scoring matchup and that is what the trio did again.

The Lakers started out fast against the Bears with goals from Hill and Greene. By the end of the first quarter, the Lakers showed their dominance over the Bears, going into the second up 4-1.

The second quarter was not much different; the Lakers put their foot on the gas with two more goals from Hill and Greene, giving them each a hat trick, along with two goals from Abigail Dicks. Going into the half, the Lakers were up 10-1.

In the third and fourth quarters, the Lakers slowed down a little bit, putting in a lot of new players that have not seen the field much, including Madison Wood, who ended up scoring two goals for herself, moving to 10 goals on the season.

On the defensive side of the field, Zemanick had one ground ball and two caused turnovers. Alongside Zemanick were Hill and Costello, who each had four ground balls on the day.

The Lakers ended the game with a massive win over the Bears, 15-4. The Lakers are currently tied with SUNY Cortland, both 7-0 in conference play, both fighting for the No. 1 spot going into playoffs.
