History made at 2026 Grammy Awards with powerful performances, big wins
The 68th annual Grammy Awards were filled with amazing performances as well as historical moments.
Hosted by Trevor Noah, this yearâs Grammys were held on Feb. 1 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony opened with Bruno Mars and Blackpinkâs RosĂ© performing their hit âAPT.â Sabrina Carpenter then hit the stage with an iconic airport-themed performance of her hit âManchild.â
Kendrick Lamar won the first award of the night, earning a Best Rap Album Award for his album âGNX.â Each of the Best New Artist nominees took to the stage for an electric medley performance. Alex Warren notably had some audio malfunctions, but bounced back rather quickly. Olivia Dean won the Best New Artist Award. She went on to commend immigrants currently affected by ICE raids, noting how she is the granddaughter of an immigrant.
âIâm a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated,â Dean said.
Justin Bieber gave an interesting performance. Donning a pair of lavender boxers and black socks, the singer performed his song âYukon.â Jelly Roll also sparked some concern after he won Best Contemporary Country Album. The singer became heated and turned the topic to religion. âJesus is not owned by one political party, Jesus is not owned by no music label,â Jelly Roll said.
Viewers quickly took to social media to express concern over his sobriety, as he is known to be recovering from addiction.
Lady Gaga took the stage for an electrifying performance of her hit âAbracadabra.â She then went on to win the award for Best Pop Album.
Carole King presented the award for Song of the Year to Billie Eilish for her song âWildflower.â Eilish was joined by her brother, Finneas, both wearing âICE Outâ pins. During her speech, she spoke out against ICE. âNo one is illegal on stolen land,â Eilish said.
Soon after, Trevor Noah made a joke about President Trump. âThat is a Grammy (Song of the Year) that every artist wants almost as much as Trump wants Greenland, which makes sense … because Epsteinâs island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton.â
Trump took to Truth Social the next morning to threaten Noah with a lawsuit, calling the Grammys âvirtually unwatchable.â
âNoah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast. It looks like Iâll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C.,â Trump stated.
The nightâs most memorable and historical moment came when Bad Bunny won Album of the Year. His album âDebĂ Tirar MĂĄs Fotosâ is the first Spanish-language album to win Album of the Year. The artist also used his speech to denounce ICE.
âWeâre not savage, weâre not animals, weâre not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans,â the singer said.
Bad Bunny has notably faced recent backlash after it was announced he would be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Despite current events, the Grammys proved to be a night of hope. It did not only celebrate music, it celebrated community and culture.
