Multiple pregnancies should not lead to criticism

The rapper Cardi B has just announced that she is pregnant, again. She announced her pregnancy with football player Stefon Diggs, who plays for the New England Patriots, on “CBS Mornings,” hosted by Gayle King.

Since the announcement, the rapper has been facing immense backlash about her pregnancy from people on various public platforms. People have been saying things such as “having loads of baby daddies is not a flex,” or that they did not know her goal was to be a “baby mama.” Just last year, she gave birth to her youngest daughter, Blossom, with the rapper Offset, with whom she has had her last three kids. But despite the fact that Stefon Diggs would only be the second father of her children, people have decided that she has several of them and loads of kids.

The media is constantly shaming celebrities, specifically women, for having multiple kids. It does not matter how many partners a celebrity may have; these women have the means to provide their children with the support they need. If they did not, then this would be a totally different issue.

Sometimes, women get treated terribly on social media, because it becomes a problem of whether they are married or not, with social media users making comments such as “another kid but still no ring.” But does it actually matter if the couple is married? Cardi B is going through a messy divorce with Offset (again, with whom she has had three kids) and he is demanding a large sum of money, even though he has been cheating on her throughout their whole relationship.

Being married with kids would be ideal; however, it does not work for everyone, since the situation can become hostile, as seen with Cardi B.

The judgments about celebrities having multiple kids with more than one partner is only really seen with female celebrities. While male celebrities who probably have more baby mothers and kids are not really judged, they are instead met with jokes. For example, television host Nick Cannon has six partners that he produced 12 children with, but he is not met with the same criticism as female celebrities. People are not saying “having multiple baby mamas is not a flex” or “another kid and still no ring.” Instead, they say “he’s trying to build a football team.”

At the end of the day, female celebrities will always be treated differently than their male counterparts when it comes to having kids. It is no one’s business about the number of kids that a celebrity has; they have the means to provide for their kids, and it is no one’s place to judge. It is also their body, so they can choose what they want to do with it. Celebrities are human when it all comes down to it.
