Oswego’s on and off-campus activities

Oswego gets quiet around this time of year, but there are still a lot of things to do both on and off campus. Starting off with the things in our community, you can attend a club you are not a part of. This is a great way to make friends and explore your interests. These events are posted on the SUNY Oswego events calendar.

Another thing that you can do is take pictures. The scenery here is impeccable, things like the lake, sunsets, environment, or even the cool art pieces, are worth a snapshot if you ask me. Next up, you can rearrange your dorm room, preferably not during quiet hours but, rearranging your room can be a fun and simple activity to cure some boredom.

The fourth option you can do is get lost in a new genre of music. This is a great way to spend some time by yourself, any day of the week, and the bonus is that music is everywhere we go.

Another activity that you can do alone is to start a gratitude journal. Some people may not find this fun but it is definitely a good recommendation to reflect upon all the things we have to be grateful for when we are feeling a bit blue.

An additional thing you can do is to get a head-start on assignments. I know this is probably the last on your list of things you actually want to do but, this free time when you are bored can be a great way to start getting ahead academically. Lastly, something you can do on campus is get a smoothie. Marano Campus Center has many real dining options, but one specific place you should go to is “REFRESH”.

Moving on to things to do in our town, you can check out River’s End Bookstore. This is my personal favorite place to get books and has been for years. The second on my list is to visit Fort Ontario. The fort is a very popular place in town to take pictures, but is also a place that as we know holds a lot of history. The third thing would be the Oswego Movie Theater. It is right down the street from campus and has fair prices compared to other movie theaters that are farther away. It is a great place to see what is new on screens.

Next on the list is to try the local dining places in town. A few of my favorite places to eat in Oswego are the Oswego Sub Shop, Fajita Grill and DP Dough. Some benefits include DP Dough being open until 4 a.m. and  two out of three of these places accepting Dining Dollars from the GetFood app.

Another thing you can do is go to the Breitbeck Park and H. Lee White Maritime Museum. It is a beautiful place to see the water or even walk around it. They have added stair access to go down lower so that you can see the lake better and located nearby, the museum offers a tug boat tour of Nash.

Last on my list of things to do in town is to go thrifting. In town there is a Thrifty Shopper located just a few minutes outside campus, and they typically have a great selection.
