Editor-in-Chief’s Column: My favorite season: baseball season

Baseball season is finally making its way back! After the Super Bowl ended, I quickly turned my sights to the upcoming baseball season and I am really excited. Football season can be super stressful because every game has a lot of impact on the rest of the season and the playoffs, so a loss can be super impactful week-after-week. But baseball season feels a little more relaxing. Even though the Yankees can be extremely frustrating at times, I will always be tuned into the games.

I also enjoy learning more about the game, other teams and other players. Because baseball is my favorite sport, I always want to know what is happening around the league. Whether it has an effect on my fantasy baseball team or it is just an interesting player putting up big numbers, there is always something that will pique my interest during baseball season.

It is also much more relaxing watching a baseball game during the regular season than a football game because of the pace. I personally enjoy the slower pace that turns a lot of people off from baseball. Being able to relax and watch a game on a warm spring day feels like the perfect day to me. However, I do feel the new rules that were implemented last year actually helped games feel even better. I think MLB games now feel like they are in the perfect sweet spot of time, around two and a half hours.

Also, the club baseball team has started practices again for this semester. They are late practices inside Romney Field House but it feels good to throw a baseball again and practice with the team.

However, this is my final semester of club baseball and that thought is crazy to me. I feel like I just started playing and now it is almost over. This experience has been so much fun. I always wanted to be able to play baseball in college and my experience with the club team has been fantastic.

Hopefully I will be able to continue playing in my post-graduation days. I cannot imagine not being able to play the sport that I love the most for the rest of my life. I will search far and wide for a place to play near where I will be living so I can play baseball until my arm falls off.

Even though I know I will not be able to play forever, I do know that my love for the sport will never waver.
