Listeners adore Drake, 21 Savage collaboration, dynamic rap duo

On Nov. 4 artists Drake (“Certified Lover Boy”) and 21 Savage (“Savage Mode II”) dropped a collaborative album titled “Her Loss,” which made a big splash throughout the entertainment world. This was a surprise to most, as the two rappers announced the project after filming the music video to the song “Jimmy Cooks.”

The album has a total of 16 songs and its length is a total of one hour. It is the first project that 21 Savage has released since his 2020 album “Savage Mode II” and for Drake, it is his third album released over the past 14 months that also includes “Certified Lover Boy” in Sep. 2021 and “Honestly, Nevermind” which was also a surprise album that hit streaming services in June 2022.

The production for “Her Loss” is a mix of soft and hard beats, a perfect mixture for the two artists, with Drake adding his classic melodies and 21 Savage hopping on when the rhythm would get more demanding. The album as a whole is interesting, there were songs that sounded like vintage Drake from his first five albums, but the addition of 21 Savage had a fresh and pleasant influence overall. Both artists are extremely talented and whenever they have hopped on a song together in the past, it would reach the top of the charts and set flames to social media.

The flow of this album is impeccable, as the two would go back and forth on many of the tracks, especially “On BS,” “Rich Flex” and “Broke Boys.” That is when the artists were in their element, obviously, Drake can carry an album when he uses his more melodic vocals alone, as he has shown in the past. There were many different tracks that dabbled in a newer style of music, mostly for Drake, such as “Circo Loco” when a sample from the legendary duo “Daft Punk” was used and executed to perfection throughout the song and Drake even hits listeners with the “One more time” line at the end of the song. Another surprise that came with “Her Loss” was that there was only one feature artist throughout all of the tracks, Travis Scott, but it may have saved that track from flopping and allowed the two artists to show that they do not need features to make a hit album. Arguably the best track on the album was “Middle of the Ocean” which was a solo act from Drake, sounding like a classic off of his fourth studio album “Nothing was the Same” and brought the listeners back almost ten years in the past with his incredible wordplay and added flow to make the song an instant classic.

Overall, whether you are a fan of either Drake, 21 Savage, or even both, this album should be a must-listen as both artists displayed their undisputed talents and may have put themselves in the album of the year contention.
