West campus and it’s hidden treasures

The timeless feud of east campus versus west campus is a sometimes a controversial debate, especially among students. The question of whose side is superior is irrelevant because everyone has a different definition of “better”. The best way to decode this age-old argument is to decipher the propaganda.

Top 3 West Campus Stereotypes

“It’s the loud, party side of campus”

“It’s the less attractive side”

“It holds most of the drunken people”

While these stereotypes can be true at times, there are some redeeming qualities that are forgotten. Even though west campus is notorious for what goes on inside the dorms, as opposed to what happens outside the dorms, the biggest misconception here is that the west side of campus isn’t absolutely gorgeous.

Granted, east campus does have a prettier exterior overall, but that doesn’t make the west side chopped liver…

The pond at the edge of west campus is the dark horse of SUNY Oswego.  It’s surrounded by beautiful wildlife, and it’s parameter makes for a wonderful running track.  Students can sit down, read a book, go fishing, or even watch the sunset.

But if you aren’t all about serene settings, you can always walk over to the volleyball/basketball courts. Better yet, the west side of campus is relatively close to Oswego’s famous ice cream parlor, Bev’s Dairy Treat.  Try their dark raspberry flavor to see why they’re famous once they open back up next season!

The answer as to which side of campus is “better” is still under some speculation, however the one thing that isn’t is that from August to mid-October, there is a lot to do on campus, no matter which side you’re on.  Once it’s December, all parts of campus will be equally congested by snow, so for now it’s a draw.
