Laker Gameday Preview: Max Ziel Women’s Basketball Tournament Edition: Nov. 15 v. D’Youville College

The Oswego State women’s basketball team opens up its season tonight at 6 p.m against the D’Youville Spartans.

The Lakers have won their last 10 out of 11 games in the Oswego State women’s basketball tournaments.

The Lakers are coming off of a 6-19 season. All six of their wins coming at home last season.

The Spartans are in the The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, the Spartans finished 11-15 last season, losing in the first round of the AMCC tournament.

Alexis Smith is the Spartans leading scorer among returners from last season with 11.6 points per game. Jean-Anne Korana is the leading returning rebounder for the Spartans, averaging averaged 7.5 per game.

Junior Heather Hebert is the returning leading scorer and rebounder for the Lakers. She averaged 11.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season.

Oswego State won the last meeting between these two teams just two seasons ago in the Max Ziel Women’s Basketball Tournament, 66-39.

The winner of the contest between the Lakers and Spartans advances to play the winner of the game between the Bay Path Wildcats and the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill in Sunday’s championship game at 4:30 p.m. While the losers of Saturday’s games will meet in the consolation game, which will be also on Sunday at 12 p.m.
