Obama’s race card losing its punch

Did you really think that electing Obama as president would finally put an end to the racist rhetoric in America? No way. Wielding the "race card" has been a pretty effective weapon for those on the left. The strategy is: if you know you can’t win, flash the "race card." Nothing can stop someone in their tracks by insinuating that he is a racist. Racist is a word that is negatively charged and can cause more damage than one knows. So why does the most beloved president of our time need to play the race card? Remember, he was going to unite the races and heal our nation? Sure.

Is there a correlation in the poll numbers and racist accusations? With Obama’s approval ratings dropping, there seems to be an increase in allegations of racism. The left unleashed a frenzy of racist charges against anyone who questioned Obama’s radical agenda. What was it that set off the left? In an act of desperation President Obama gave a speech to Congress, televised, to push the health care bill. It was an outburst by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) who, in a fit of frustration, shouted out "You lie," during President Obama’s speech. Immediately, the press and those on the left pounced on Wilson. Shouts of racism could be heard from all corners.

Former President Jimmy Carter, in an interview with NBC news, said "that he believes there is an animosity toward President Obama because he is a black man." This is the same President Carter who, just last year, while praising Obama, referred to him as a "black boy." Former President Bill Clinton (who had accused Obama during the campaign of playing the "race card" against him) chimed in with the rest on the left, claiming racism was a factor in those who show opposition. The shout of racist was heard all the way to Venezuela. Hugo Chavez, in a rant directed at Fox News, said, "You only hate the President because he’s black."

Of course the media in all forms were blaming Wilson and those on the right for being racists. Maureen Dowd of the New York Times insisted that "fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken ‘you lie, boy!" Naturally, members of Congress had to express their disapproval of Wilson’s shocking and appalling behavior, which they claim had demonstrated his lack of respect for the president. No one had ever behaved so unprofessionally. Apparently, the democratic members of Congress are suffering short term memory loss.

In 2003, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) on the house floor said, "President Bush and his administration has lied to the world." In 2004, Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) on the house floor said, "I came here last year and accused President Bush of being a liar. A year later, I feel no reason to apologize or change my opinion." Also, the left-leaning blog site, Politico, on Sept. 11, 2009 in Wilson’s defense wrote that in 2005 democrats had howled hissed and shouted "no" during President Bush’s speeches to Congress. I don’t remember anyone sanctioning members of Congress during the Bush years. Joe Wilson was sanctioned by Congress, and when Wilson supporters were calling for a rebuke, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga) announced, "and so I guess we’ll probably have folks putting on white hoods and white uniforms again and riding through the country side intimidating people. That’s the logical conclusion if this kind of attitude is not rebuked and Congressman Wilson represents it." It is amazing the amount of hypocrisy that this administration has shown.

The left is in trouble and they know it. That is why they are constantly playing the "race card" and finding that it is losing its punch. If you are conservative, being called a racist is nothing new. What is new however, is the amount of people who are now being accused of racism. Pelosi, Reid and others in Congress have stated that the protesters who attend these tea parties are racist. Have they forgotten that these so called racists vote? The rallies and town hall meetings are not limited to republicans. A growing number of moderates and democrats are attending as well. People who are against this administration don’t see race, they see their liberties being stolen, their jobs being outsourced, and they see the mountains of debt from the out of control spending.

The American people are seeing, and some for the first time, the deterioration of our nation and the destruction of our Constitution. They are speaking out. The silent majority will no longer remain silent. The left is imploding. Perhaps the very concept that the left has used to divide us will be what is going to unite us.
