The SUNYACs are here, it’s time to cheer

The ice hockey SUNYAC championship has finally started and the Lakers have their opponent for their semifinal matchup.

Fresh off their win against the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils the Buffalo State Bengals will face the Lakers at the Campus Center Ice Arena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. This will be the biggest game of the year to date, even bigger than Whiteout Weekend and last Saturday’s matchup against the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinals on the road.

During the regular season, the Lakers held a 2-0 record over the Bengals, defeating them 5-4 during their first meeting in November at the Campus Center, and 4-0 earlier this month in Buffalo.

The Lakers have the Bengals’ number and there is no reason why Oswego should not advance to the SUNYAC final against the winner of the Plattsburgh and Geneseo matchup Saturday night.

Look for Chris Brown to be a factor in this game, as he has five points against the Bengals so far this season.

Now that the SUNYAC championship is here, the question is: what can you do as a fan to make the atmosphere electric on Saturday night?

The 2012-13 SUNYAC hockey season was a very special one, and we treated the team like they were an NHL franchise. As many of you know, the NHL lockout canceled a big chunk of the season, so during that time the Lakers became the biggest things in many local hockey fans lives, especially ours.

We supported the team at home, we traveled on the road and we are proud to say that we attended 21 out of 25 total games throughout the year. Along the way we noticed that the atmosphere for each game increased with each win, and support for our group and signs also grew.

By now many know us, and follow us on our @BadhamBrigade Twitter account, you have seen our shirts and our signs, but this weekend we want every fan in the arena to be just like us?

When getting ready for the game this weekend, you could do some simple things like making a sign, wearing some festive swag or something else to show some great Oswego pride.

Although its was our Bad-Ham sign that made us famous, since then we have expanded to signs that salute players like Jon Whitelaw, Luke Moodie, Chris Brown, Zach Josepher, Kyle Badham and many others.

Why not show Andrew Hare, Paul Rodrigues, Chris Muise or another Laker some love by making a proud sign. Filling the arena with signs would be great, and it would be great for exhibiting Laker pride.

Supporting the seniors throughout this exciting playoff run is something the entire school community should support, even if you aren’t a big hockey fan. These players give it their all each and every night they play, and they deserve the recognition appreciation and support.

Additionally, show some support for the women’s hockey team as well. They have a great team and they deserve the support. Additionally we would like to give a shoutout to juniors Olivia Boersen and Chelsea Hunt for all the help they give public skaters during the week during lessons, and the pointers they gave us during public skate.

With that in mind we look forward to seeing a packed house for both games on Saturday and if you have any suggestion for signs or cool ideas for the future, feel free to send us a tweet @BadhamBrigade.
