News The Lighthouse The Local Stops

New store sells unique items

On Bridge Street sits a quiet store where dragons and fairies are a suitable topic of conversation, and where spell books containing witches’ secrets make their home.

The Fey Dragon provides a sense of calm as you walk in with serene music and the smell of incense radiates throughout.

“Fey comes from the old Scottish word meaning magical, the wee little people, the fairies,” said Mary Hudson, who opened The Fey Dragon about a year ago.

Customers can expect to find a variety of metaphysical crafts and curiosities.

“A lot of people come in and have no idea what this stuff is about,” Hudson said. “Half my job is to educate them and answer as many questions as I can.”

Hudson explained that a lot of people are drawn to the store’s mythical aspects; from crystals to stones, tarot cards, candles and incense, there is sure to be something to intrigue the mind.

Metaphysical crafts and curiosities are not the only thing you can expect to encounter here. The Fey Dragon offers tarot card readings, henna tattoos and even a Reiki Master who is available to customers for appointments. Reiki is a Japanese technique for reducing stress that also focuses on promoting healing.

“Yes, there is a Pagan bend to my shop, there is no denying that, but we have a lot of unique items; a portion of them are made by local artists,” Hudson said. “I encourage people to come and ask questions, it’s all about understanding that way you’re not afraid of something.”

Hudson, originally a tarot card reader, opened the store one year ago after running a successful online version of The Fey Dragon and bringing its goodies all around the country to Pagan festivals in Florida and Kansas.

Hudson later realized that life on the road was not going to cut it.

“I missed being home with my husband and sleeping in my own bed,” Hudson said.

She knew it was time to make a change. With the help of her two kids, who both hold a degree in business management, she opened up the store on 52 W. Bridge St.

The Fey Dragon will be holding a variety of upcoming events in light of the fall season, which Hudson encourages all to join. Check out the store’s Facebook page for more information on dates and times of events.

  1. Mary, is one of our customers and is truly a delight. We have worked together for several years from the days of the on-line Fey Dragon store to the opening of her brick and mortar store. I know this store is Mary’s passion and dream. Anyone nearby should visit.
