Coming off of their first win of the season against Skidmore College on Sept. 12, the Oswego State women’s volleyball team made a splash at their home invitational, going 3-1 over Sept. 18 and 19 at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Junior Priscilla McReynolds led the charge as an all-around threat, contributing seven kills and 13 digs per match. The Lakers were able to outscore opponents 10-4, their largest margin of victory throughout a four-game stretch since Oct. 4-11, 2025. 

Oswego kicked the tournament off in stunning fashion, blanking Alfred University 3-0. The first set began tightly, with both squads knotted up at seven points apiece in the early stages. The Lakers then pulled away as senior Grace Gdovin contributed a strong display of offense while the Saxons also committed crucial errors. The homesquad ultimately won the opener, 25-16, and ran away with the final two sets, putting an exclamation point on the third with a vocal 25-11 victory. 

After securing their first shutout since Nov. 14, 2025, the Lakers welcomed the Liberty League leaders, Clarkson University, onto the courts. The Lakers were able to claim just one out of four sets, as the Golden Knights played an aggressive and methodical style of volleyball. While Oswego ended with less total errors than their adversary, they struggled to keep up with Clarkson’s physical net presence. 

After day one of the invitational, Golden Knights’ head coach Carol LaMarche spoke to the preparation that went into her team’s strong showing. 

“We talked about being confident in our actions and not hesitating or being worried about making an error,” LaMarche said. “That helped them be more aggressive and go for the points rather than being worried about losing.”

The Lakers entered day two determined to make a splash after splitting their outings in the previous day. They did just that, capturing 3-1 and 3-0 wins over Bard College and Utica University, respectively.

Oswego capitalized on Bard’s inability to find consistency, as the Raptors were able to go up by more than three points just twice throughout the entire four sets. Coming off of a set three loss that put the score at 2-1, the Lakers used a powerful cross-court kill from junior Mya Bush to gain momentum and ultimately pull away with a 25-20 win.

Looking back at the victory, Oswego head coach Jon Stenman credits the resiliency that Bard held throughout the entire match. 

“We got a little comfortable after the first two sets and kind of let our guard down,” Stenman said. “They fought really hard and played really aggressively, but we were able to get the job done. Sometimes it’s not always the cleanest win, but it is a win.”

The Lakers secured their second shutout of the tournament against a Utica squad that has struggled to find their footing all season. Experience headlined the offensive raid, as juniors Gigi Basile and Priscilla McReynolds led the kill line with 10 and seven, respectively, while sophomore Alexandra Fairbanks contributed six in the dominant team showing.

“They wanna play for each other,” Stenman said. “They enjoy playing with each other and watching one another compete.”

The Lakers will hit the road for their next set of battles, taking on Muhlenberg College and Alvernia University in the Muhlenberg Invite on Sept. 25 and 26 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
