Oswego’s women’s tennis brought out the brooms this past weekend, defeating Utica 7-0 on Friday before beating up on Brockport with a 6-1 dominant win.

The weekend started with a shutout at Utica. The Lakers set the tone in doubles play, winning two of the three matches to secure the first point. Sophomore Hannah Freed and Alexis Christian led the way with a 6-0 victory, while the number one doubles team also earned a 6-1 win.

The Lakers carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all six matches in straight sets. Senior Leah Bell delivered a standout performance at number two singles, earning a convincing victory. Freshman Aubrey Salati and sophomore Emery O’Brien faced tougher competition at number three and number four, but battled through obstacles to get the win, helping Oswego complete the 7-0 sweep.

Oswego continued the dominance against Brockport, earning a 6-1 win. The Lakers once again captured the doubles point, with Bell and junior Emily DeLuca earning a 6-4 win in the first doubles and juniors Isabella Eason and Kate Hayes adding a 6-2 victory in the third.

In singles, the Lakers won five of six matches. Junior Avery Borman showed off again, defeating her opponent easily in the first, followed by Bell’s dominant victory in the second and DeLuca sent the Lakers home happy with a win in the third at number 3 with a win. Oswego also clinched the fourth and fifth. Brockport’s lone point came in solos.

Borman was named the SUNYAC women’s tennis singles player of the week on Sept. 14. She became the first Laker to win it since she herself won it in September of last year.

The two wins moved the Lakers to .500 on the campaign right before they head off to play the SUNYAC preseason favorite Cortland on Sept. 18.
