Oswego lacrosse prepares for another record breaking campaign

Following impressive outings in both of their 2025 seasons, the Oswego State men’s and women’s lacrosse teams are gearing up for their upcoming campaigns.

The women are coming off of a program-defining season, one in which they posted an overall record of 15-3, going 9-0 in conference play and later capturing their first ever SUNYAC title in a thrilling 12-8 defeat of Cortland.

While the Lakers later fell to Ithaca in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the outlook remains bright. Twenty-one different underclassmen – the most there has been going into a single season this century – help to shape the roster and underline the blooming talent at Laker Turf.

Freshman Madison Wood brings offensive tenacity to the team, having notched 37 goals in her senior year at East Syracuse-Minoa High School. Furthermore, first-year defender Abigail Dicks poses a dynamic attack, coming off a statline of 27 goals and 21 forced turnovers in her senior year at Whitesboro High School.

Along with the aforementioned rising stars, the roster’s veteran leadership is a mainstay. Alexis Hill enters her senior year as an all-around piece of the puzzle, having scored 56 goals, collecting 45 ground balls and causing 23 turnovers last year, while junior Cassidy Croce and senior Noelle Smith combined for 55 goals.

The Lakers are stout defensively, too. Midfielder Sadie Zemanick recorded 33 ground balls and forced 25 turnovers in 2025, while Aubriana Greene is a reigning member of the SUNYAC All-Conference Team, having scooped up 23 ground balls and forcing eight turnovers in her first year with the Lakers.

Between the pipes, Alana Iacovissi is entering her senior year as the lead goalkeeper. She logged over 1,000 minutes and posted an excellent record of 12-3 in the 2025 campaign, while Mackenzie Perry sits as the substitute with three games played going into her junior year.

On the men’s side, the Lakers are looking to make a run at their first-ever SUNYAC championship. They fared well under the guidance of head coach Andrew Daly last season, putting up a record of 10-5 and clinching an in-conference mark of 6-1, their best since the 1994 season when the team went a flawless 5-0 over SUNYAC play.

“I play with all my best friends and they’re great players,” junior midfielder Garrett Elston, who notched 24 goals last season, said. “We all help each other score.”

This year’s rendition of the team returns 61% of their overall attack from last year and features 15 brand new faces. One of those recent additions is attacker Logan Ward, who generated a whopping 76 points on 42 goals and 34 assists during his two years at the varsity level at Orchard Park High School.

Cam Shear will help as a defensive cornerstone, coming off of selections to both All League First Team Defense and the Herb Fitch Sr. All Star Game as a defender in his final year at Fairport High School.

On the flipside and speaking to the name of experience, captain Emmet Starowicz contributes a dynamic attack, having accumulated 36 points on 14 goals and 22 assists last season. The junior midfielder is yet again looking to showcase his selfless playstyle in 2026, attempting to trickle his leadership qualities down to the latest additions.

“I want to be a team leader, that’s the biggest thing,” Starowicz said. “I’m trying to develop into that stance on the team and be a big helper with everyone, so we can do something with this program.”

On the opposing end, defenseman Matt Rudolph has appeared in just four games over his collegiate career, but is preparing for a bigger role in the backend during his third year with the team.

“I’ve been trying to step up more this year, becoming a leader for the defense as a junior,” Rudolph said. “It’s a role that I’ve been trying to work towards and I’m ready for it.”

The team is tied together through goalkeeper Seamus Hand, who started 15 games and saved 56% of the shots that came his way last year.

The men are slated to take on Nazareth in a scrimmage on Feb. 14, before they head to Oneonta, New York, to face off against Hartwick a week later. The women hit the road to Utica for their first game of the season, clashing with SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Feb. 25.
