The Lakers posted a draw against SUNY Oneonta on Sept. 27 and a win against SUNY Canton on Oct. 1.
The road match against Oneonta proved to be an all-defense contest, as both teams were not able to find the back of the net. Oswego had several offensive opportunities in the first half of the contest, out shooting the Red Dragons 5-2. However, the Lakers were not able to put any goal past Oneonta keeper Bryanna Meehan.
The second half was a continuation of the first, as the defensive affair continued. Oswego keeper Paytyn Crane faced only one shot on goal the entire contest and did her job well when the time came in the 51st minute. The Lakers were able to muster up eight shots on goal, but all eight were stopped by Meehan. As the final horn sounded, both offenses left frustrated at a 0-0 result.
While the Laker defense proved to be a steel curtain throughout the game, the offense hoped that they would be able to rebound in their next game against SUNY Canton after going 0-8 on shots.
In their first home SUNYAC contest against the Roos, the Laker offense was able to rebound in dramatic fashion. The entire game, but especially the first half, was a one-sided affair in favor of Oswego.
In the 15th minute, the Lakers struck first when Olivia Davis rifled a shot past the keeper to put Oswego up 1-0. Only four minutes later Kaylee Elliot made the score 2-0 off a dish from Brianna Winkler. Winkler then scored a goal of her own four minutes later off an assist by Kyla Sustad to give the Lakers a commanding 3-0 lead only 22 minutes into the contest.
The score remained 3-0 until just before halftime, when Sabrina Schmitt made the deficit even larger at 4-0.
The second half saw an almost immediate goal not even a minute into play by Luna Catano. Two minutes later the Lakers continued their domination when they made the score a whopping 6-0 off a goal by Jillian Brosnan. SUNY Canton was not able to even attempt a shot the entire contest, showing a complete domination by both the Laker offense and defense.
The Lakers posted 20 shots on goal to Canton’s zero and the final score stood at 6-0 when the match was over.
Oswego State won their first SUNYAC contest of the season bringing their conference record to 1-0-1 and their overall record to 4-3-2, third place in the SUNYAC. The Lakers will square off against 0-2 SUNY Morrisville in a road SUNYAC game this Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
