Despite Pride Month being in June, the city of Oswego hosted its Pride festival on Saturday at Breitbeck Park.
This festival gave LGBTQ+ students from SUNY Oswego the chance to see how the community they live in supports and celebrates them.
This was the second year in a row that the city put on a celebration like this.
Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., attendees could walk up to craft vendors and food trucks. They were also able to see performances by drag queens and participate in various games. Free Pride memorabilia was also given out at the festival so members of the LGBTQ+ community could wear their identity proudly.
âItâs important for there to be representation for minority groups, such as the LGBTQ+ community, because we all need to be able to see ourselves not only in media but in the real world too,â one festival goer said. âEverybody needs to be exposed to different cultures and walks of life.â
This event could not have been possible without the cooperation of the Common Council and the Mayor of Oswego, Robert A. Corradino. Coordinators of the event are thankful to the city government for âalways being very supportive to our community.â
