Love island brings drama for season 7

Love Island overall is a great show, with this past season gaining tons of popularity and chatter online. The premise is that if contestants win, next to the person you are dating, you can either keep $100k, or split it and each go home with $50k in hand and a possible future romance.

During your time in the villa you will compete in challenges and go on dates. Throughout the show, your fellow islanders get the chance to vote you off though. Season 6 was about love. The recent season, season 7, was friendship and influencer island.

Two islanders got voted off by their peers for having one initial romantic connection and not exploring and they kept other people on the show who had no connections. However, not exploring and forming one connection is the entire point of the show.

To add on to that, production did not do enough background checking on their islanders and two girls got sent home this season for having a racist history on social media. To make things even worse, both Hannah Fields and Jeremiah Brown, after being sent home unfairly, said they had a lot of challenges in the villa due to how they were forced to live.

Fields was never told why she was sent home while Brown was sent home for moving too fast in relationships. Both said they had little to no sleep and when they would ask producers what time it was they would get a response of “it’s island time.”

Iris Kendall, one part of the top four couples at the end, said they were required to walk around and stay in their bathing suits all day, even if they did not go swimming.

Additionally, they are not allowed to have any phones or devices or watch television. Their food options were limited as well and it seems as though living in the villa for six weeks under these circumstances is enough to drive anyone crazy.

Production has also been talked about online with fans claiming they could spot bad edits, production mistakes (like filming one conversation on multiple days, where people were in different bathing suits) and things that were cut down/not shown.

Additionally, the islanders cast this season all had lots of followers on social media, except for a handful of people. Before the show turns into clout island, they need to start casting real people looking for love, not people trying to be influencers, get brand deals and gain fans.

Before the infamous Cierra Ortega was cast (the girl who got kicked out for being racist towards Chinese people on Instagram) she had been a huge fan of the show and had a Love Island-themed birthday party, along with being best friends with someone from a previous season.

Everything Ortega did throughout the season felt inauthentic and calculated and viewers did not resonate with her actions. The show needs a serious makeover and some new casting and production people if they do not want to lose fans.
