Oswego State golf player features Ryan Fecco, Jake Owens

Ryan Fecco, a SUNY Oswego graduate student from Baldwinsville, has been a part of the Oswego State golf team since 2018. Fecco has been a constant competitor and he has claimed many individual awards. With three matches left in the spring season, Fecco will be looking to finish strong and continue his successful swing.

At the Hershey Cup in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Fecco shot a 78 on the first day and an 80 on the second day. Fecco had the best score out of all golfers from Oswego. He finished tied for 31st in the overall tournament out of 81 total golfers. Fecco played well and was able to finish in the top half.

One notable performance from Fecco was in the Empire 8 Championships in October 2022. Fecco finished in first place out of 47 golfers. Fecco shot a 77 on both days, putting him ahead of everybody.

The Lakers’ Jake Owens also shot well. In the first round, Owens shot an 85. During the second round, Owens improved his stroke by seven strokes, giving him a 78 on the second day. Owens finished in 6th overall for the Empire 8 Fall Championships. A great display by the Lakers with two golfers finishing in the top 10 spots.

Looking ahead for Fecco and the Oswego State golf team, the Empire 8 Spring Championship is up next. The Lakers will be competing from April 15-16, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, for the Empire 8 Spring Championship. Fecco will be looking to continue his positive form and finish his last three matches on a high note.

Owens, a sophomore from Greenwich, has proven to be a top golfer on the Oswego golf team. Owens performed well in the Hershey Cup, finishing just behind Fecco, Owens finished tied for 36th out of all 81 golfers. Owens shot an 83 on the first round and an improved 76 on the second day. Although Owens had a tough first round, he found his swing and had a great improvement during the second round.

Both of these Lakers athletes have been key players for the golf team’s success. With Fecco being a grad student, he will cherish the last matches that he has as a Laker. For Owens, he has at least two more seasons to golf for Oswego. Once Fecco is done, Owens will be there to fill in his spot as the top golfer on the Lakers’ team.
