Golf closes season with strong performances

The Oswego men’s golf team finished the first half of their season on Oct. 2 with a second place finish out of eight teams competing at the Empire 8 Fall Championships.

Graduate student Ryan Fecco finished the day at the top of the individual leaderboard. Going into the Spring Championship, Fecco leads by two strokes after matching his round one and round two scores in the Empire 8 Fall Championships. Fecco was named the Male Athlete of the Month of September for his performance this season. In the month of September, Fecco had three top five finishes with two of those being in first place.

Sophomore Jake Owens had an impressive performance in the championship tournament as he moved up eleven spots from round one. Five out of the six Lakers finished in the top half of the individual leaderboard.  Oliver Wolland finished day one with a score of 87.  He would improve on his score the following day as he would move up the leaderboard three points with a score of 85.  Tyler Donahue had his best finish of the season so far as he was tied at 21 compared to being tied at 33 for the Oswego Fall Invitational in late September.

Overall, the Lakers had their best finish of the 2022 Season so far at the Empire 8 Fall Invitational.  This marks the third time that the Lakers have come in second place in a tournament this season, as they were also the runner up at the Elmira Fall Invitational and the Oswego Fall Invite.  The Lakers are on pace this year to match last year’s results as they finished first out of eight teams competing at the Elmira College Spring Invitational.

The Oswego State men’s golf team will start the second half of their season with the Hershey Cup Invitational on April 2-3, 2023 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Last year the Lakers finished 15th out of 17 teams at the tournament. Fecco finished day one of the tournament with a score of 88. The Lakers hope to improve off that score from last year and hope to start their second half of the season on a strong foot.  The Lakers will conclude their season with the Oswego Spring Invite on April 29- 30 as they are hoping to take home their first championship win since 2018.
