Laker Game Preview: Women’s Soccer vs. Clarkson University

The Oswego State women’s soccer team will take on Clarkson University this afternoon at Laker Turf Stadium. The 3-2-1 Lakers will look to get back in the win column. The 3:30 p.m. kick off follows the men’s soccer contest on the turf.

Last Time Out

Oswego State

On Tuesday, the Lakers traveled to Hamilton College. Losing 4-1 to a strong Hamilton side. The one Laker goal was scored by freshman forward Brianna Winkler. Winkler netted her third goal for the Lakers this season vs. Hamilton. She was assisted by sophomore forward Gabriella Martinez. Her second. Laker goalkeeper Perri Anderson played the full 90 minutes and recorded 10 saves.

Clarkson University

On Wednesday, Clarkson traveled to SUNY Canton and won the game with a score of 4-0. Clarkson is still undefeated this season after six games (5-0-1). The Golden Knights rallied in the second half after only being up 1-0 after the first half. The Golden Knights saw four different scorers in this game. Sarah Kohls was the lone scorer in the first half. Once things started moving for this Clarkson team, they scored three goals in under 30 minutes in the second half.

Matchup History

The Lakers head into this game with history in their favor as they have won 26 out of 30 matchups between them and Clarkson. These two teams have not played since September of 2019. Although Oswego has dominated historically, Clarkson has won the last two games against the Lakers. In the most recent matchup, Clarkson came out on top during a close scoring 3-2 game. Clarkson is looking to once again tighten the gap between these two teams historically.

Players To Watch

Oswego State: Katie Delgrosso

Sophomore forward Katie Delgrosso currently averages one goal per game, and she is looking to continue her offensive success today vs. Clarkson. If the Lakers make a push up the field, Delgrosso is a player to keep an eye out for because she definitely has the striking ability to put the ball in the back of the net.

Clarkson University: Sarah Kohls

Senior Sarah Kohls is looking to continue her involvement in Clarkson’s attack today against the Lakers. Kohls has tallied five goals and three assists so far this year. She will definitely be a player for the Laker defense to mirror and stay close to all game today.

Prediction and Final Thoughts

This game should be a hard fought battle between both teams. Both the Lakers and the Golden Knights have strong attacking players, and both teams are great at finding the back of the net. The Lakers do not want to lose three straight to this Clarkson side, and this Clarkson side does not want to be handed their first loss of this season.

Prediction: Oswego State 2-1
