Lakers Gameday Preview: Women’s hockey vs. Buffalo State (Game two of three)

The Oswego State women’s hockey team will travel to Buffalo for an afternoon game against Buffalo State. The Lakers are coming off of a 3-2 win over Nazareth College, while the Bengals suffered from a 2-1 overtime loss to SUNY Canton.

Keys to the Game

Oswego State

Scoring on the power play will be the key to Oswego State getting a win this afternoon. Buffalo State did not allow a power play goal against SUNY Canton, while the Lakers scored one against Nazareth College. If the team can take advantage of extra skater opportunities, then they should be able to leave Buffalo with a win.

Buffalo State

Limiting turnovers will be the key for Buffalo State. In the past couple of games, the Lakers defense has shined and done a great job of forcing teams to turn the puck over. The Bengals will need to be in sync when moving the puck against the Lakers.

Players to Watch

Oswego State: Avery Webster

The sophomore defender for Oswego State is coming off of a game where she tallied a goal and an assist. Webster is not afraid to get involved on the forecheck and get plenty of shots on net. Expect her to see a good amount of ice time.

Buffalo State: Natasha Steinle

The Bengals’ second-leading scorer is coming off of a game where she scored the lone goal for her team in an overtime loss. She will need to be heavily involved in the offense for her team to have the best chance to win.

Final Thoughts

Oswego State should be heavy favorites in this afternoon’s game. Buffalo State has only managed to win three games in the past month. Add that to Oswego State battling to earn a home playoff game and there could be an offensive explosion for the Lakers.
