Campus Recreation Report: Broomball, basketball continue

All of the playoff excitement has quieted down in intramural sports this past week, but the excitement of regular-season play has continued with the continuation of broomball and basketball.

Out of the men’s competitive basketball league, Gaza Genocide, The Cyclones and Days In The East: Vol 3 all sit undefeated at the top of the standings and all featured impressive games this past week.

The Cyclones’ first two games of the season have been nail-biters, coming down to the final seconds of play. They successfully won their first game 56-51 over Cuban Missile Crisis and narrowly sneaked past Team 55 Overall 73-72. Gaza Genocide started their undefeated season off on a different note, beating both Let It Rain and The Troy Aikeys by 30 points while showcasing great sportsmanship throughout their games.

Days In The East: Vol 3, on the other hand, has played three games so far and had a mixture of performances in the process. Days In The East: Vol 3 won their first two games 74-63 over Juice is Loose and barely snuck by the Balmain Bandits 67-64. Their third game of the week was not as close as their first two games, as they won 65-22 over Sigma Tau Chi.

On to the ice for co-rec broomball, where the leaderboards are just like the on-ice action, slipping and sliding all over the place.

Even though it is only in the third week of regulation, many teams have made their team name known with four teams tied for first place in the standings, those teams being BABY BROOMERS, ChurchGroup PutinBallAway, East High Wildcats and broom broom pow.

BABY BROOMERS have only allowed one goal in their first two games of the season and have put away seven goals for themselves, beating You Got Rec’d 3-1 and beating Team Last Minute 4-0. ChurchGroup PutinBallAway, much like BABY BROOMERS, have notched seven goals for their team, but have allowed six goals past the crease, taking their game against Hat-Trick Heroes into the final seconds of play and winning 3-2.

The East High Wildcats have not given up any goals in their first two games of the season, winning their games narrowly 1-0 over Bad Joke Squad and 3-0 over Team Puckkake.

Team broom broom pow has won two games so far this season and took one by default, making their record 3-0. Both of their games were extremely close, winning 5-4 over You Got Rec’d and 2-1 over Team I hate being the Captain.
