Cortland — The SUNYAC title will stay in Cortland for the sixth straight year. The SUNY Cortland Red Dragons defeated the Oswego State Lakers by a score of 3-1 on Championship Sunday. Jeff Cooke went 8.1 innings in the win to improve to 6-1 on the year. Oswego State registered five hits, one more than the Red Dragons, but fell to SUNY Cortland for the fourth time this year.

31

Fabio Ricci reached base for the 31st straight game after his walk in the second inning. He ended up going 0-1 on the day with two walks and a hit by pitch. He was named to the All-Tournament Team as well. Ricci batted .273 with one double, three runs scored and one RBI this weekend.

Small Ball

SUNY Cortland showed again why they are so dangerous. They can bunt all over the lineup and do it well. Austin Clock, the four hole hitter, and Conrad Ziemendorf, the three hole hitter, each laid down a sac bunt in today’s contest. There are not many other teams that will have their guys in the heart of the order lay down a bunt with men on base. SUNY Cortland does. SUNY Cortland wins championships.

100+

Today’s outing marked the third straight postseason game that SUNY Cortland’s starting pitcher threw 100+ pitches. Tanner Whiteman threw 109 in Friday’s victory against SUNY Fredonia. On Saturday, Seth Lamando threw 124 in 10 innings of work. Finally, Jeff Cooke tossed 8.1 innings with 125 pitches in their title clinching game. He was also named to SUNYAC Championships MVP.
