David Benioff, author of “City of Thieves” and showrunner of “Game of Thrones,” shared stories of how his career started and answered questions on his latest projects in two talks given to students and the public when he visited campus on Wednesday.

Benioff’s book “City of Thieves” was the 2012-2013 Oswego Reading Initiative selection.

During the two question and answer sessions, Benioff not only discussed his own career, but also gave advice to aspiring student writers.

“You have to be very willing to change whatever you originally put down and really be flexible,” Benioff said.

He also pointed out that very few people are born great writers, so hard work pays off.

Benioff’s other work includes writing the screenplays for the movies “Troy,” “The Kite Runner” and “The 25th Hour,” the last of which he adapted from his own novel.
