Three years after its official completion, the Campus Center is going through some growing pains as it undergoes a complete room renumbering and several aesthetic changes this semester and into the summer.
Effective immediately, all Campus Center departments and organizations are being asked to comply with the new numbering system by changing e-mail, mail and online correspondence. The numbering system will become official following commencement ceremonies May 17.
The new system eliminates the letter prefixes to each room and removes the distinction between the Campus Center and Poucher Hall and creates a linear numbering system that runs from one end of the building to the other.
“It’s much more intuitive in terms of finding your way around,” Director of Campus Life Rich Hughes said.
The college mailroom and registrars office have been notified of the changes will be prepared for the expected transition period. Students registering for summer classes will be signing up for classes using the new room numbers.
Signage will be displayed throughout the building to inform visitors of the changes, Hughes said.
Other changes to the building include new tile in the Crossroads area and a redesign to the welcome desk area to provide a better space for building managers and patrons.
Funding for the projects has been provided by a capital-funding grant by New York State designated specifically for making long term improvements to campus facilities. In all, $290,000 has been allotted for the improvements.
Hughes noted that allowing the Campus Center to be lived in for a period of time allowed them to better understand what improvements needed to be made.
