Quick Recap: Women’s Ice Hockey Vs. Canton

Oswego State got off to a strong start tonight against the Canton Kangaroos scoring 2 goals early as that’s all they needed to have a successful night. They continued to keep rolling through the competition as this time Canton was the victim as Oswego State dominated them 10-0. They scored 5 in the second and 3 in the third to cap off their best game of the year.

 

Oswego State possessed the puck the entire first period as Canton couldn’t get anything going offensively and were barely in the Lakers defensive zone. The Lakers fore checked beautifully, cycling the puck and making the smart plays. They generated many scoring chances and dominated defensively as well.

 

Oliva Ellis scored only 1:11 seconds into the contest on a beautiful play by Alexa Aramburu. Aramburu took the puck wrapped around the net and found a wide open Ellis who snapped it in to make it 1-0.

 

Madison Byrne scored her first goal of the season with a beautiful shot from the point that got through. It was assisted by Monica Cramer who left it on a tee for Byrne as she drove it past the Canton goaltender Brooke Susac to take a 2-0 lead 3:51 into the first period.

 

The Lakers had 13 shots on goal in the first period as Canton could only generate 1 shot on goal making it an easy first period for goaltender Mariah Madrigal. Oswego State had one power play opportunity in the first as they could not convert.

 

Domination is the only word to describe the second period for Oswego State as the Lakers scored 5 goals in the period. Three of them were on the power play as Oswego State entered Canton’s zone easily and generated a plethora of scoring chances. At 6-0 there was a goalie change as Illie Berisha came into relieve Brooke Susac.

 

The Lakers got their third goal of the game on a nice shot in the slot by Laura Thacker who get herself in great possession. It didn’t happen though without a beautiful pass behind the net by Monica Cramer. Kendall Applebaum also assisted on the goal that was scored 5:20 into the second period.

 

Oswego State went to the power play for the second time and converted as Eryn Stewart scored on a tip in front of the net to make it 4-0. She did a great job screening the goaltender as Victoria Blake took a wrist shot from the point to grab an assist as well as Alyssa Brockman grabbing the secondary assist. The goal was scored 7:45 into the second period.

 

The Lakers then got another power play goal less than a minute later as Olivia Ellis scored with 8:29 into the second period to make it 5-0.  She was assisted by Andrea Noss and Alli Ullrich.

 

Oswego State got their third straight power play goal at 10:48 into the second as Alex Aramburu scored on a great feed from Andrea Noss in front to make it 6-0.

 

Aramburu scored again with 37.6 seconds left in the second on a hard working play where the Lakers cycled and passed well. Olivia Ellis and Jaquelin White assisted on the goal.

 

The Lakers had 13 shots on goal in the second as Canton only had two. Oswego had an eruption on the power play in the second as they were 3 for 3. Canton went 0 for 1 on the powerplay in the second as Oswego State did a great job of penalty killing.

 

The third period for the Lakers was more of the same as they dominated from start to finish. Everything seemed to be easy for Oswego State as Canton got essentially no offense zone time in the third.

 

The Lakers made it 8-0 16:05 into the 3rd with a goal from Andrea Noss as she took the puck away from a Canton defenseman and scored. There were no assists on the goal.

 

Oswego State got their ninth goal as Olivia Eliis scored on a beautiful feed from Alexa Aramburu to get the hat trick.

 

The Lakers finished up their scoring for the night with a 10th goal by Allie Ullrich. It was assisted by Alexa Aramburu yet again with 1:59 into the game.
