If there was one word to describe Oswego State’s 10-0 win against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos tonight, it was domination. The Lakers dominated the game from the start to finish as they were solid in all three zones to improve to 10-1-0 on the season. Canton fell to 5-3-0 on the year as they were absolutely trounced.

Canton was unable to sustain any offensive pressure and were stuck in its own zone for pretty much the entirety of the game. Oswego State did a wonderful job of sustaining offensive zone time for long stretches as its suffocating forechecking lead to Canton making several icings. The icings required Canton’s tired players to stay out on the ice and commit turnovers that lead to goals. This seemed to be a frequent problem throughout the game as the more icings occurred, the more turnovers happened, which lead to more goals for the Oswego State Lakers.

“We really took over the play tonight,” head coach of the Lakers Diane Dillion said. “We’re a more experienced team, we have a little bit more depth than Canton does and we have more speed. We used it [speed] in the beginning we got a little bit lazy after then picked it right back up in the second and we did a nice job on the power play tonight capitalizing on their mistakes.”

Olivia Ellis started off the 10-0 drubbing with a goal just 1:11 into the contest. Her night would be far from over as she would go on to to get a hat trick. The power play was also very prevalent for Oswego State in this one as they scored three straight in the third in what was probably its best period of the year. They scored five goals in that second period and the power play was dominant, scoring almost immediately into the start of every power play.

Ellis wasn’t the only one that had a great game in this one. Alex Aramburu put up five points (two goals, three assists) to help contribute to her team tonight. She was absolutely fantastic passing the puck tonight as she constantly found her teammates open for great scoring chances. She did a great job scoring some nice goals on some really well placed shots.

“You know it’s funny when she hits the net she can score, so we had that conversation on the bench too,” Dillon said.

“I think Alexa is getting the payoff off of four years of hard work. She’s to me an example of exactly how it supposed to be,” Dillon said. “You come in as a freshman you start to learn things, you work hard, you get better each year out, she made the decision to between her junior and senior year to make her senior year her best. She came back in great shape, she maintained that, she’s working hard and I there is a level of commitment from Alexa that she maybe didn’t have sophomore year. Your career is only so long at the collegiate level and right now she [Aramburu] is certainly making the most of it.”

Although the Lakers looked good in this one it is imperative that they show up to play tomorrow as well as they face the same Kangaroo squad again tomorrow.

“We can’t have any letdown tomorrow, we know dang well that Canton has a lot of pride their going to come back firing,” Dillon said. “If you look at our schedule and history so far, the key is to come back on the second day and challenge your opponent like we did against Plattsburgh, like what Williams College did against us last week. We need to stick to our structure, play our game and execute tomorrow and if we do we should like the results. The Lakers will look to do just that tomorrow as the look to continue to prove they are a top team in the nation.”
