This past Sunday, the flag football league champions were decided. Headed into the weekend, Team Phoenix and Hustlin Homies were the two teams to watch out for since both were looking to take their second straight trip to the championship game. Team Phoenix swept through playoffs with ease and made it to the championship game. While the Hustlin Homies had a different path taking on two tough teams in the quarter and semifinal games, but were able to defeat them with their great defense. Team Phoenix had a chip on their shoulder after losing in the championship game last year, but this season they came out strong and knew they had a chance to take home a trophy this year.

Team Phoenix came out flying in the first two minutes of play and scored a touchdown.  But after that the Hustlin Homies stayed strong to keep the game within one touchdown, unfortunately Team Phoenix was just too much and scored again with three minutes left in the game to seal the deal and take home the championship T-shirt.

“It felt great to win finally and now we have to defend our title next season,” captain of Team Phoenix Hayden Chodes said.

The co-rec competitive outdoor soccer league finished up their league with an impressive final matchup between Skillz that Killz and NARP Life. Both teams were looking to finish their season with a victory. Going into the game both teams were evenly matched. In the regular season, NARP Life’s only loss was to Skillz that Killz and they were looking to redeem themselves with this match up. It was an intense start to the game and was back and forth with both teams holding strong. In the first half neither team was able to score.  Both teams came out strong in the second half and with just three minutes left Skillz that Killz scored to put them up 1-0. NARP Life did not back down and made a great decision to pull their goalie to help in the offensive rush.

With only seconds left in regulation, NARP Life got the ball dribbled down and with the last possible second ripped the ball past the Skillz that Killz goalie to take the game into overtime.  Overtime was not to disappoint, with seconds remaining, NARP Life, took a shot that went just past the goalie, but after a long conference between officials, they called it a no goal because it was after time had expired. So the game headed into a penalty kick shootout.  In the end, Skillz that Killz just out shot and protected the goal better in the shootout than NARP Life and took home the championship. It was a great game on both ends.

“Everyone on our team could agree that the feeling of winning that game was the best intramural sports feeling we have had,” said Spencer Iodice, captain of Skillz that Killz. “We have all played since freshman year and finally, right before we all graduated, we accomplished the goal we set from freshman year, to win the intramural soccer league!”

The men’s competitive soccer league championship took place last Friday with NARP Life versus KickitorTicket. NARP Life had a tough battle in their semifinal game against Average Joes, but just edged them out 2-1 to lead them into the finals. KickitorTicket took on Free Agents in a rough semifinal round, with a lot of competitiveness from both teams, but in the end it was KickitorTicket who advanced to the finals. In the final game, sportsmanship was high with both team vying for the championship T-shirt.  NARP Life was able to pull out the victory 4-2 and take home the glory.
