QUICK RECAP: Women’s Ice Hockey vs Elmira College

A good first period was in the making for the Lakers until a shorthanded goal evened the score and seemed to make Oswego State step off the gas pedal.

Bailee Goodon opened the scoring as Laura Thacker found Kendall Appelbaum at the point Her shot was deflected right to the stick of Goodon to open the scoring for the Lakers at the 4:22 mark.

The aforementioned shorthanded goal came at the 7:32 mark of the first frame. A puck in the neutral zone was chipped past Jayme McCreary by Olivia Nystrom. Nystrom took that puck into the Laker zone and beat Trovato from the high slot to even the score.

A power play goal put the Lakers down 2-1 heading into the intermission. Louisa Lippiatt Durnell point shot was originally stop by Trovato, but Katie Granato was there to bury it short side on the senior. The go-ahead goal was scored at 11:40 of the first period.

The middle frame saw three penalties, two for Elmira and one for Oswego State, and ended with a score of 3-1.

The Soaring Eagles scored the lone goal that frame on a bad angle shot. Durnell took a shot from the goal line that squeaked by Trovato who didn’t have the entire post covered. Meg Lahey and Maddie Evangelous were given the helpers at 12:49 of the second period.

A large quantity of goals were scored in the third period, but all for one team.

Johanna Eidensten scored twice, Maddie Evangelous scored, Olivia Nystrom scored her second of the game and then Maddy Jerolman capped off the scoring, the eighth of the night to drown the Lakers by seven goals.

The Lakers were running around all period and it cost them. The two will meet again tomorrow at 3 p.m.
