Men’s lacrosse (6-5, 0-3 SUNYAC) hosts their second home game of the 2015 season on Saturday against SUNY Plattsburgh.
The Lakers have failed to win in conference since defeating SUNY Oneonta, 15-11, on April 20, 2013
Oswego State is coming off a 7-2 victory over SUNY Canton on Wednesday, while SUNY Plattsburgh is coming off a 14-10 win against Clarkson University, on Wednesday as well.
Laker head coach Drew Bezek attributed a slow start against the Kangaroos on Wednesday’s game to the team being tired from the previous contest the night before against the SUNY Potsdam Bears. He hopes to see his team rested and ready for the Cardinals.
The Lakers started the game slow against SUNY Canton, but finished strong in the fourth quarter scoring four straight goals. Freshman attacker Luke Krizman led the team in scoring with his first career hat trick.
Oswego State will look for Krizman to continue his hot play against the Cardinals. Senior Cody Hoose managed to hook up with Krizman earlier this week against SUNY Canton to help Krizman score, a tandem that Oswego State will hope to see more of against the Cardinals. Hoose is chasing the Laker record for career assists.
Hoose and midfielder Nick Giampaolo will be key to the team’s success once again, leading the offense early. The senior duo has scored 22 and 21 points respectively for the Lakers.
The Cardinals leading point scorer, Brendan Damm has recorded 60 points with 37 goals and 23 assists.
The Lakers will be looking to sophomore starting goalie Wyatt Russo to continue his solid play between the pipes. Russo played a total of 56:35 minutes of the game against SUNY Canton, only allowing one goal on 20 shots.
Cardinal junior Matt Massaria is 10-5 on the season with 8.33 goals against average and .602 save percentage. Massaria registered 18 saves in the team’s last game against Clarkson.
Oswego State will look to start hot in order to end its drought in the SUNYAC before it hits two years on Monday. Saturday’s game starts at 1 p.m. at South Athletic Field.
