McAfee virus hits campus computers

A faulty update to McAffee anti-virus software has caused the program to incorrectly identify a WIndows update as the "Wecorl.a," virus, affecting a majority of desktop computers all over campus, said Associate Director of CTS Michael Pisa in an e-mail.

In order to correct the problem, CTS officials must fix every individual computer affected.

Users who download the update may see there computers continuously reboot or produce a blue screen DCOM error. Users are advised not to download the 5958 DAT from McAfee.

CTS is urging students who have been affected by the virus to call 315-312-3456 to let them know you are experiencing a problem.
