Lori Moreth – 4/23/10

Last week, we discussed media bias and I touched on the how the Obama "lap dog media" portrayed the Tea Party movement. This week we will take a closer look at the Tea Party movement.

The Tea Party movement is truly a grassroots movement. There is no real leadership or party affiliation. It is open to anyone of any age, race, creed, religion, political ideology, etc. What started in 2009, with the protest over the economic stimulus package, and has grown to encompass the out-of-control spending of this administration, the radical expansion of the government and the outrageous debt, as well as the proposal of raising taxes to the point in which the government will take over 50 percent of your income, driving us all into poverty. The Tea Party Patriots on their website state, "A community committed to standing together, shoulder to shoulder, to protect our country and the Constitution upon which we were founded!" with the mission statement: "Our mission is to attract, educate, organize, and mobilize our fellow citizens to secure public policy consistent with our three core values of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets."

We have come to expect the media’s discrediting remarks. However, when the president smugly takes cheap shots at the Tea Party people it clearly reflects poorly on him. Obama had arrogantly mocked the tax day rallies in a recent speech stating, "I’ve been a little amused over the last couple of days where people have been having these rallies about taxes. You would think they would be saying thank you." You see, when the left protests by blowing up buildings and destroying property (among other destructive behaviors), they are merely expressing their right to assemble and their right to free speech. However, when those who peacefully gather to voice their opposition to corruption within Congress and the White House, as well as the takeover of the private sector and the continuous infringement upon our individual rights, are viewed as violent and called domestic terrorists. Yes, this current administration is labeling American citizens who are, many for the first time, expressing their first amendment rights.

A leftist public school teacher had established a website to recruit Obama supporters, and anyone who likes to instigate, to infiltrate the Tea Party rallies in order to discredit them by any means necessary. The question becomes why? Why are those on the left obsessed with eliminating these peaceful gatherings? Why does this administration feel the need to mock, name call and outright tell them to sit down and shut up?

There are several reasons for the attack on the Tea Party people. One reason is that the Tea Party movement is growing, bringing the people across our nation from all walks of life to unite against corruption and an agenda that is oppressive. This administration knows it cannot carry out its "fundamental transformation" of this country into a totalitarian, Marxist regime as long as the Tea Party movement gains momentum and strength to stop it. When the co-coordinator for the New York State Tea Party, Judy Pepenella, was asked this question she responded with, ""We’ve been ignored, we’ve been ridiculed. Well, now they’re coming after us." She went on to say, "Gandhi’s quote is one we understand: ‘First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.’"

What the left, the progressives, and this administration, including Obama, don’t understand is that this is America. We have inherited a strong belief in the concept of American exceptionalism, as well as the beliefs, morals, and values of our founding fathers. We come together in the face of tyranny and injustice. We believe we were all created equal and when we are united we can stand strong against our enemies, both foreign and domestic, when they threaten our liberties and freedom. President Reagan had said, "If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth." There are no truer words.
